Venstre in Norway wants to ban DRM in the country

A small Norwegian political party named Venstre has expressed their demand that the government should ban the DRM technology in the country.

They are also asking the government to legalize file sharing. This is to meet the growing demand from the people in the country who are asking the government to remove the restrictions on downloading and duplicating content from the Internet.

Venstre spokesman Jonas Stein Eilersten added in a statement: “We have a unique opportunity in the world to distribute culture, ideas and knowledge in a way that was never possible before. We believe our resolution is a big step in this direction.”

They are also proposing that consumers can be told to pay a special fee for broadband usage or hardware storage. The party representative suggests that this money could be used to pay companies and artists depending upon how much of their content are replicated in the country.

Venstre had this to say about the Apple’s DRM model: “It’s wrong for a company to be able to control the way you play a downloaded song. This is a way of using the market in a way that is against free-market principles.”
