MySpace announces MySpace News service
Online social networking service MySpace has announced that they are now entering the news business with a new feature edition MySpace News.
This new service would allow their members to control what items other see on their section. This service would feature services like user recommendations and is aimed at helping the service to become more of a portal.
The service would pick up news items from thousands of Web journals and news sites and the syndicated content would be grouped on the basis of categories.
Users would be free to vote on the stories and depending upon these votes, the stories would get escalated to front page. This is somewhat similar to services like Digg.
The developers believe that the news services would benefit from their service as this would direct more traffic to their sites from user’s MySpace pages.
Interestingly, picking up news feeds from existing sources has already put Google in legal troubles. And they had to signed deals with Agence France-Presse and Associated Press to continue syndicating their stories.
