MySpace News is up and running

Online social networking service MySpace.com has finally opened their MySpace News section to public. It looks like most other social news gathering services with vote buttons for visitors to highlight the news they like or dislike.

Visitors can choose from ratings of 1-5 and the service shows the most popular stories on the front pages. This is something very similar to what the Digg uses.

MySpace.com is also inviting visitors to submit their own choice of news sources for syndication. The service is currently in beta as the developers would like to fine tune the algorithms making sure that it is not prone to spamming.

A MySpace spokesperson claimed that they are now tracking more news sources compared to Google News and they are using the technology provided by Newroo which their parent company News Corp. acquired sometime back.

This could become the next big name in the social news portal genre considering the service is one of the most visited websites in the United States. MySpace claims that they have 170 million user profiles and they are adding 320,000 profiles per day.
