Napster and Circuit City to launch Circuit City + Napster

Digital music retailer Napster has said in a statement that they are now teaming with retailing giant Circuit City Stores to launch a brand new music retailing service.

This new service would be called Circuit City + Napster and it would be powered by the Napster’s subscription service.

They plan to make it special by offering some exclusive songs to the subscribers to this service which would not be made available to regular Napster customers.

The service would cost the subscribers $14.95 a month. They are offering one month free subscription along with five free songs for new subscribers.

They would be selling individual songs for the regular price of 99 cents each. Circuit City aims to take on a similar service launched by Best Buy (in partnership with Real) with this new service.

Phil Leigh, senior analyst at Inside Digital Media spoke on this announcement: “Best Buy and Circuit City have recognized the trends here. In Best Buy’s case, they sell more CDs than Circuit City, but it was clear their CD business was shrinking.”
