Jimmy Wales not a fan of MySpace.com

MySpace.com might be one of the most popular online hangouts for millions of web users but Jimmy Wales is not a big fan of the service.

In fact he believes that the service would fail in the future if they continue to function like they work now. Wales said: “There’s way too much advertising and they’re not really respecting their own community.”

MySpace.com is owned by News Corp. and they claim to have more than 100 million registered users. He spoke about his own pet project Wikipedia: “We’re not similar at all – you get involved in a community.”

Wales spoke about his personal life and how much he stays online: “I pretty much roll out of bed and log on”.

He also spoke about expectations he had when he started the Wikipedia project. He said that he had no idea that the website would become one of the top 10 visited destinations online. Wales added: “I was thinking more in the Top 100.”

Wales is now working hard on his next big thing… the search engine project Wikia which he hopes would challenge the existing leaders in the market sometime in the future. He also had some advice for budding entrepreneurs: “Find something you love and go for it. It’s good to have a geek hobby that turns into a career.”
