General Motors showcases E-Flex Hydrogen Fuel Cell System for Chevrolet Volt
GM might be making all the wrong headlines for their possible involvement in the killing of their electric car project in the 1990s.
However, the company seems to be committed now and have shown their next iteration of the E-Flex electric architecture.
This architecture has now been configured with GM’s newest, most efficient hydrogen fuel cell system to date. The world’s largest automaker said that this second variant of the E-Flex system uses their new fifth-generation fuel cell propulsion technology and a lithium-ion battery.
This enables the car to have up to 300 miles of petroleum- and emissions-free electric driving. GM claimed that their fuel cell E-Flex is a true Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) and operates all-electric from both hydrogen fuel cell-generated electricity and grid electricity.
The system is also totally plug-in capable and it adds up to 20 additional miles each time it is charged. The company had first shown their under development project at the North American International Auto Show in the Chevrolet Volt concept vehicle in January this year.
