Nissan looking at more models for Indian launch

Nissan has said that they now plan to launch some more new models in the Indian market. The company just launched their luxury sedan Teana in the Indian market.

Nissan is planning to bring in more luxury cars along with an updated SUV model in India in the current year itself. They already sell their X-Trail model in India which competes with Honda CRV.

Yoshie Motohiro, MD, Nissan Motor India was quoted as saying in the media: “At present we are not looking at volumes in car sales but building the brand Nissan in India by bringing in some of our best selling global models. Due to the high taxes levied on imported completely built units (CBU), a compact car or midsized car would in no position be able to take on the competitive price factor in that segment.”

They are likely to also launch an updated X-Trail edition in India. This could be accompanied with a petrol variant as they only sell a diesel model right now.

Nissan has also said that they want to bring in a small car in the Indian market where the sales numbers are. The company is currently awaiting the final outcome of its discussions with Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki on this front.
