Nvidia to make PlayStation 3 Graphic Processor
Nvidia has possibly struck gold with this deal. The gaming processor manufacturer is working with Sony to develop and manufacture the graphic processor that would power the next generation of gaming consoles from Sony, PlayStation 3.
The chip would be developed as part of a multiyear agreement between the two companies. In addition, this might include Nvidia chips being used in Sony’s other products as well and would probably include royalty payments. The exact details have not been released by the two companies.
The companies have been working on this for 2 years already and the chips would finally be manufactured at two fabrication plants. The PlayStation 3 is expected to be launched in the year 2006. Sony is already working on the microprocessor for it in collaboration with IBM.
