Nokia has shipped more than 100 million S60 platform mobile devices

Mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that they along with their license users have now shipped more than 100 million mobile devices powered by the Nokia’s S60 software platform.

The Nokia’s S60 platform is used on higher end mobile phone products from the company and they have also licensed it for use to rival companies including LG and Samsung.

Market research firm Canalys recently claimed that as many as 54 percent of smartphones shipped are based on this platform from Nokia.

Nokia S60’s main challenger includes the Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform and of course Linux based mobile operating systems.

This is just one of the several ways mobile phone makers try to generate more revenues by licensing their mobile platforms to other companies.
