Samsung R55 notebook comes powered with a hybrid hard disk
South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced the launch of their new notebook product named Samsung R55. This is the first product from the company to be featuring a hybrid hard disk.
The notebook has been priced at around USD 1900 and comes loaded with a 15.4” WXGA LCD, 80GB Hybrid HDD at 5400 RPM with 256Mb OneNAND Flash, NVIDIA GeForce 7400 graphics, Vista Premium and a super multi DL optical drive.
The company claims that the inclusion of the hybrid HDD improves the data read performance by as much as 26%, 71% on data write speed and 32% lower power consumption when used with small data chucks of up to 10MB.
Hybrid hard drives are also likely to improve the battery life of the devices. This seems like a more logical solution till the time flash based hard disks become affordable.
