Yahoo! India launches Map service in India
Internet giants Yahoo! have announced that they are launching their mapping services in the Indian market. The company added that their Indian R&D center in Bangalore will also be the hub for new products which would be aimed at emerging markets including India and Brazil.
George Zacharias, managing director of Yahoo India added that the potential of the Indian market for online advertising is growing at a rapid pace and it is expected to grow 50% every year.
He further claimed that around 85 percent of the country’s Internet users visit Yahoo and the customer loyalty would help them counter any emerging challenge in the market.
Yahoo! launched their Yahoo India Maps service in beta and they are now providing street-level, satellite map, and hybrid maps of over 170 cities, 4,785 towns, and 220,000 villages across India. They are using the data supplied by CE Infosystems.
Yahoo! said that they have taken special care to prevent any undue exposure of sensitive defense and other installations. They also plan to make this service available to mobile users in the country in the coming months. The company also announced their plans to launch Yahoo India Our City beta for 20 cities. These specialized sections would feature local maps, snaps, videos, and news from each of these cities.
