PalmSource to buy China MobileSoft
PalmSource entered in an agreement with a major Chinese mobile phone software company China MobileSoft Limited (CMS) to acquire its operations. The deal also incorporates CMS’s wholly owned subsidiary, MobileSoft Technology (Nanjing) based in China.
The deal would require approval of the shareholders of the China MobileSoft company and is expected to close before the end of the current financial year. They also plan to work on development of Palm OS to run on Linux in collaboration with the Open Source Community.
PalmSource already have a dominating presence as a software maker in the mobile/PDA market. And this deal would enhance their arsenal to gain more market share. With software products gained with this deal, they would have one of the broadest ranges of mobile applications in the market.
CEO of China MobileSoft Madeline Duva had this to say: “We are very excited about joining PalmSource to create the world’s first truly global mobile software company. We believe the synergies of the Palm OS platform and the CMS software products and technologies open up new market opportunities for both companies worldwide.”
