Google’s iGoogle: Google Personalization services renamed

Search engine giant Google has announced that they are renaming the Google Personalized Home Page service. It would be now known as iGoogle.

Interestingly, the personalized homepage was hosted at a folder named ig. The company is also adding a host of new features to this personalization service.

Google already allows the users of personalized homepage service to create a customized portal with news, RSS feeds and other interactive elements including Google Gadgets.

The company added that this service was their fastest growing product at the company last year.

Google would now make available a new Gadget Maker which would allow users to create their own customized gadgets without requiring any programming knowledge.

Users would be able to share their developed Gadgets with friends and relatives on their Gmail list by publishing them on the Gadget directory called My Community.

iGoogle Product Manager Jessica Ewing added on their future goals: “I think that themes will be an area in which we will continue to invest resources because they delight people.”

The company further added that they are now going to offer location-based personalized search results. Users who have pinpointed their location on the Google Maps service would be offered results optimized for their place of residence.

Overall, the company has enough in store to keep everyone happy in the coming months.
