US FCC approves the first WiMAX capable laptop from Clearwire
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has now approved the first WiMAX capable laptop to be manufactured by Clearwire. The company said that they aim to make them available by the end of the year.
The regulatory body approved the WiMAX laptop PC card that fits into a standard Type II laptop card slot. It would be compatible with both Windows XP and Windows Vista operating system.
Clearwire added that their card works with their WiMAX network, which has been built with Motorola wi4 Expedience wireless networking equipment.
The company added that this approval would expand the popularity of WiMAX technology in the market as more players would enter the field with their own offerings.
They are now aiming to launch their products in the market in the second half of the year. They are already offering their broadband services in the U.S. and Europe.
