Steve Jobs wants Apple to be Green

Environmental group Greenpeace has been specifically targeting iPod maker Apple for manufacturing products which are not very environment friendly. They have in fact ranked Apple in last place of all technology companies the organization ranks.

Apple now wants to change their position as the company’s CEO Steve Jobs has posted an open letter on the company website stating their plans to remove toxic chemicals from its products.

Jobs wrote: “Apple is ahead of, or will soon be ahead of, most of its competitors in these areas.”

He said that the company would soon accomplish its goal is by eliminating mercury in its displays. They are currently scheduled to launch first Macs with LED backlight technology sometime later this year.

Steve Jobs further said that complete transformation to the new technology would depend on how fast the LCD industry can transition to LED backlighting for larger displays.

He further stated that all of the e-waste collected in North America is processed in the U.S. and they do not ship any of this outside the country.

The company is also now scheduled to expand its iPod take back program to include all stores worldwide this summer. Jobs also wrote about their desire to eliminate or reduce the use of other chemicals including Arsenic, Mercury, PVC, Brominated flame retardants and others.
