Dell now part of Microsoft-Novell collaboration

Software giant Microsoft has announced that the world’s second largest personal computer maker Dell is now joining their collaboration with the Novell.

This collaboration is working on ways to allow open-source Linux software to work with Windows. This announcement makes Dell the first major PC manufacturer to join the Microsoft-Novell collaboration.

The collaboration between Microsoft and Novell has been pretty controversial and consists of a broad set of business and technological agreements to make their products work together better to serve corporate customers using both Linux and Windows computer servers.

The deal between Dell, Microsoft and Novell would see Dell purchasing SuSE Linux Enterprise Server certificates. SuSE Linux is developed by Novell.

Microsoft added in their statement that Dell would also now establish a services and marketing program to migrate existing Linux users who are not Dell Linux customers to SuSE Linux.

Interestingly, this news comes at the time when Dell has announced their decision to sell Linux powered machines in the home segment and their choice of Linux for this launch is the Ubuntu OS.
