Nokia to expand capacity of their Chennai plant in India

World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has said that they are planning to expand the manufacturing capacity of their plant located in Chennai in India.

The company has already manufactured more than 25 million phones in one year at this unit. The aim is to expand the production to meet the demand in the market as the company is focused on enhancing their market share.

Soren Pterson, Senior Vice President, Entry Business Unit Mobile Phone, Nokia spoke about their Indian strategy: “Our current market share in India is very very healthy and it is improving.”

He added: “I expect that we shall increase the capacity. But how much and when and what will be the investment, we are looking at all these issues.”

The company has existing plans to invest around 150 million dollar over four years on this unit. They are selling 80% of the phones manufactured here in the domestic market while the rest of the units are being exported.
