Motorola to launch new 3G enabled mobile devices
The Motorola management has been successful in preventing investor Carl Icahn from getting a board position in the company.
However, the pressure from Icahn seems to have worked as the company has now announced their plans to launch some new 3G enabled devices in the market.
Motorola said in a statement that preliminary tally of stockholder proxy votes indicated that Icahn lost his bid for a director’s seat.
The company added that they would soon show new mobile devices based on 3G and Java technologies. Incidentally, Sun Microsystems too has announced that they will unveil new mobile phone software based on new Java technologies.
Motorola CEO Ed Zander said in a statement: “We are focused on executing our plan to improve the performance of our mobile devices business and building upon the strength of our strong Networks & Enterprise and Connected Home Solutions business. During the past few months, we have met with and listened to a large number of our stockholders, including Mr. Icahn, and we value their insights and perspective regarding Motorola.”
Icahn has now responded by saying that he intends to keep his stake in the company. He added: “It’s a very, very good investment. It’s just a question of do they have good enough management to carry it home.”
