Motorola prepared to take on Apple iPhone

Motorola is the worlds second largest and America’s largest mobile phone maker. They are due to face new competition in the market as Apple is going to enter the segment with their Apple iPhone mobile phone product.

Motorola chairman and CEO Ed Zander said in a statement that they are fully prepared to take on Apple in the US market as they enter the market next month.

The company is practically struggling in the market as they have failed to generate a successful replacement for the hugely popular RAZR range of mobile phones.

Motorola reported a first quarter net loss of $181 million, compared to a profit of $686 million in the year ago quarter. They further posted a 2 percent decline in first quarter overall revenue but a 15 percent decline in its mobile devices segment.

Zander admitted that the iPhone would stimulate the overall market for feature-rich mobile devices. He said: “I think it’s going to, in some cases, reinforce what we have been trying to do and are doing with the mobile internet. Applications such as multimedia and video and photos and music are going to be done on these devices.”

The company is currently scheduled to launch some new 3G enabled mobile devices in the coming days. Zander spoke about these new products: “This has unbelievable video capability. It’s a media monster.”
