Thai government not suing Google YouTube
The Thai Government has said that they are currently dropping their plans to file a lawsuit against the search engine giant Google after they agreed to remove video clips deemed insulting to the country’s revered king.
The government had previously blocked access to the video sharing service in the country last month. Google had at that time refused to take down the offensive clips.
Vissanu Meeyoo, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology spokesman said in a statement on these latest developments: “We decided not to sue Google because it has agreed to cooperate in removing 12 video clips from the YouTube Web site.”
Google itself said in a statement: “We have the deepest respect for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. We likewise respect Thailand’s law and tradition and hope that we will be able to reach a mutually acceptable resolution to the current controversy.”
Looks like Google has realized that not all countries can digest the kind of mockery US administration faces in the media in the country.
