Indian Space Research Organization to launch OCEANSAT-2
Indian Space Agency ISRO has announced that they would soon launch a new satellite named OCEANSAT-2.
OCEANSAT-2 is now scheduled for a launch in 2007-08 and it would be used to study physical and biological aspects of oceanography.
Chairman of Indian Space Research Organization G Madhavan Nair said in a statement: “It is more powerful than the OCEANSAT-1 (which was launched in May 1999), which was nearing the end of its life cycle.”
The satellite would also be carrying an Ocean Color Monitor and a Ku-band pencil beam “scatterometer”.
ISRO added that the satellite would be used for identification of potential fishing zones, sea state forecasting, coastal zone studies and provide input for weather forecasting and climatic studies.
