DirecTV Group could soon start testing broadband delivery through power lines

Satellite television provider DirecTV Group could soon start testing the broadband delivery technology through power lines.

The tests could be conducted in some of the major cities in the United States. These plans were revealed by the company Chief Executive Chase Carey said at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in New York.

He said that they are talking with several companies that specialize in providing broadband through the electrical grid.

He added: “We’re not the only ones talking to them. I think you’ll see some meaningful tests in this arena.”

The technology to deliver broadband through power lines has been tested by several companies in the past. Though most of the internet users in the country typically get their connectivity through cable television or telephone companies.
