MySpace to feature videos from New York Times and National Geographic

Online social networking service MySpace has announced that they are now expanding their video offerings by adding video channels that will feature news and lifestyle video.

They would now be hosting videos provided by partners including The New York Times and National Geographic.

These would include programming made for the web as they aim to compete effectively against rivals like YouTube.

Market analysts believe that offering video services enhances the value of sites like MySpace.com as they lure in more users.

MySpace said that their deal with National Geographic would allow them to host short video drawn from shows such as “Explorer” and “The Dog Whisperer.”

In addition, they would broadcast movie reviews, political news and other content from the Times and Reuters Group PLC.

They would also be showcasing animation, video games and other video from News Corp.’s IGN Entertainment site and Ripe TV.
