Cisco to provide social network tech tools to customers
The leading telecommunications network equipment maker Cisco Systems has announced that they are currently developing tools to help their customers create social networking Web sites.
This was announced by the company’s Chief Development Officer Charlie Giancarlo.
Cisco recently acquired Utah Street Networks which created the technology powering the social network site tribe.net.
They also now own Five Across which provides software for building social networks. This technology is powering social aspects on sites like the National Hockey League’s NHL.com.
Giancarlo was speaking at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in New York when he stated: “There are a set of capabilities we’re working on we believe will help enable social networking and help information find people rather than people find information. That’s something we’re pursuing very aggressively.”
He added: “We are not going to become a retail social networking site… meaning directly dealing with consumers on the Internet.
