Amazon’s new Digital Music Store would feature DRM Free Songs

Online retailing giant Amazon has confirmed that they are soon going to launch their own digital media store which would feature DRM free songs.

With this they would become the first major challenger to the Apple iTunes which recently announced plans to sell DRM free songs from EMI on their store.

eMusic is another online service which is currently selling DRM Free songs but they do not have any mainstream artist on their database.

Amazon said that their new store would be online sometime later this year. They however added that the store would feature songs in MP3 format from EMI Music and about 12,000 other music labels.

These files would play on all the digital media players along with personal computers and Macs. Users would also be free to write them to CDs for play on their music systems.

Microsoft is another company which is currently working on their own plans to offer DRM Free music on their Zune Marketplace which at the moment sell music for their own Zune player.
