AMD working on an chip platform designed specifically for notebooks

Microprocessor company AMD has announced some details on their upcoming chip platform designed specifically for notebook computers.

Market leaders Intel has had a mobile platform since many years now and this has benefited them massively in this segment of the Personal Computer market.

AMD said that their mobile platform would be optimized for improving battery life and enhancing graphics and video processing performance.

It would consist of a collection of microprocessors, graphics chips and other chips. Intel incidentally just recently launched their Centrino Pro platform for mobile devices featuring the Core 2 Duo processor.

Endpoint Technologies Associates analyst Roger Kay spoke on these AMD plans: “Having bought ATI, they really are heading down a path to integrating more and more stuff on to a single piece of silicon. They haven’t really had much of a platform story before. Intel started talking about platforms years ago.”
