RealNetworks acquiring Sony NetServices for $9 million
Digital media company RealNetworks has announced their decision to acquire the Sony’s Sony NetServices division.
The deal is worth USD 9 million. Sony NetServices is Sony’s European music download service and this deal would help RealNetworks to expand their presence in this market.
Real added in their statement that this acquisition would complement their earlier acquisition of South Korea-based mobile music services provider WiderThan Co. Ltd.
Sony’s NetServices allows their subscribers to download full songs or stream music to their 3G mobile handset as well as their PCs.
Real has a presence in the digital media sales market with their Rhapsody music subscription service. Real added that they have also signed on a deal with Vodafone Group which is Sony NetServices’ largest customer.
