Dell to launch a convertible Tablet PC sometime this year

World’s second largest personal computer maker Dell has announced in a blog post that they are planning to launch their first convertible tablet PC sometime later this year.

Dell also showed a video of a prototype product they have developed on the blog post. The blog post had Jeff Clarke, senior vice president of Dell’s business product group saying: “I’m here to confirm that we are entering the [tablet PC] market, and we will enter the market later this year.”

Dell plans to target this product at education, health care, and corporate markets. The company did not reveal any technical specification of the product but did say that it would be “one of the lightest-weight” tablet PCs in the market.

Clarke added: “The technology and customer and usage models have evolved to the point where it makes it right for Dell to enter the marketplace. We’re excited, and everybody, we’re coming.”

they are not alone targeting the Tablet PC market… Fujitsu just recently launched their latest product in this segment. The company launched FMV-U8240 which is based on the Intel’s “McCaslin” ultramobile PC platform.
