GM India to launch Optra Diesel in luxury segment

General Motors India is planning to launch the Chevrolet Optra TCDi, which will be the most powerful luxury sedan in its price band.

“We are in the final stages of bringing the newest member of the Optra family to the market. It will be manufactured at our Halol plant and should reach Chevrolet retailers next month,” said Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India.

Since its launch in 2003, the Optra has set a new benchmark for affordable luxury. The Optra TCDi diesel extends the value promise of Chevrolet by providing exceptional performance that has never been experienced before.

“We have noticed from our research that diesel cars currently on the market do not deliver the kind of performance a luxury car customer expects. But the performance of the Optra Diesel being launched by us will far exceed the expectations of our customers and be an absolute delight”, said Mr. Balendran.

The new Optra with a TCDi (Turbocharged Common Rail Direct Injection) engine utilizes second-generation common rail technology, in which diesel fuel is injected at a very high pressure of 1,600 bar through a multi-step injection process. This results in more efficient combustion, delivering great performance. The new engine also has an exhaust gas recirculation system for clean and efficient operation.

GM India launched the Aveo sedan, SRV and Aveo U-VA hatchback as part of the Chevrolet India Revolution in 2006. The automaker has further expanded its line-up of vehicles this year with the roll out of its mini car Chevrolet Spark.

GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet SRV and Chevrolet Spark at its facility in Halol, Gujarat.
