Vodafone launches two cheap mobile phones manufactured by ZTE Corp.
UK based mobile service provider Vodafone has launched two new cheap mobile phones aimed at the emerging markets.
These two mobile phones have been manufactured by the Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE Corp and would sell for $25 to $45.
Vodafone aims to launch these phones in their markets like Egypt, Romania and South Africa in the next two weeks.
After this initial launch, they would also be sold in around 15 other markets around the world. With Vodafone taking over Hutch in India, these phones might soon enter the Indian market as well.
The company said that they aim to sell over a million of the two phones within a year. Incidentally, a cheap phone launched by Reliance in India a couple of days back sold that many units in just around a month’s time!
These new phones from ZTE would compete with cheap mobile phones manufactured by Nokia for the developing countries. ZTE said that their phones are powered by chipsets made by Infineon Technologies.
