Volvo and Ford working together in the Indian market

US-based Ford Motor owns the Volvo’s car business and the two companies are going to work together on expanding their presence in the Indian market.

while Volvo would concentrate on launching products for the higher segment of the market, Ford would continue to focus on the mid-size segment.

Volvo’s Indian venture would have the backing of the Ford India Ltd. and the two companies are planning a joint strategy for India

Volvo Car India Managing Director Paul de Voijs said in a statement: “Future launches in India could be a part of our global synergy with Ford Motor. We could bring in vehicles having shared technologies (platform) with Ford Motor to increase our presence in India.”

Ford India President & Managing Director Arvind Mathew had similar thoughts: “Common platform models with Volvo cannot be ruled out in India.”

Volvo has already announced their plans to launch a sedan (S80) and a sports utility vehicle (XC90) in the Indian market and they are also considering bringing in its C30 and C70 cars.
