MPAA targeting Bittorrent now

The next target for the very unpopular Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) group is the Bittorrent technology users. They have already targeted the companies running P2P servers and users sharing pirated content.

MPAA would be targeting the operators running the Bittorrent servers instead of individual users. The aim is to hurt the people misusing the technology. The protocol was developed by Bram Cohen couple of years back. It was programmed to speedup the transfer of data by segmenting the content.

Unlike most other p2p technologies, any partially downloaded data in Bittorrent is made available for sharing. This enables more incoming sources for a shared file. In the end, the data is more thoroughly distributed.

People do not use the application to search for files. Instead, they download a source called torrent files from websites, which collect data from online-hosted trackers. Once the initial payload is downloaded, the client can run on its own directly connecting to other Bittorrent users.

As a member of an underground community i shall say that it will be very hard to accomplish this impossible task. The Bittorent technology is way beyond the normal Kazaa sharing program. It will be around for as long as the users will be willing to share the contents of their hard drives, be it movies or games or other usefull files. But never the less, it should be fun to watch them struggle ;).

Apart from media threats, I do not see how downloaders can be targeted for illegal file sharing as the laws are so blurred. I think the MPAA should just accept that the underground communities will exist, even if the majority of the software is shut down. I regularly download new movies, and buy the ones that I have enjoyed. I would have otherwise not bought the movie.

I generally find that the people who are avid downloaders have a bigger original movie/CD collection than people who are oblivious to the P2P programs.

See it as free advertising if you will and stop barking.

La page d’accueil de SuprNova, le principal site recensant les fichiers partagés par BitTorrent, n’est plus accessible. Un peu plus tôt, elle annonçait:

    Greetings everybody,

As you have probably noticed, we have often had downtimes. This was…
