Facebook inviting other developers to code for and sell on their website

Facebook is one of the few sane social networking services we have online. The developers behind the service are now inviting other companies to sell products and create software for their web based service.

Facebook founder and chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement that their move is similar to how Microsoft allowed other developers to code for their operating system helping them to make Windows the most used operating system in the world.

He added: “Until now, social networks have been closed platforms. We’re going to end that.”

Facebook has already recruited about 65 companies to create software for the Facebook Platform. Amazon is one of these companies which is now allowing Facebook users to publish book reviews on their profile pages.

Zuckerberg added about the growth of the Facebook: “We’re the sixth most trafficked site in the U.S. and we can’t seem to get our act together. We recently passed eBay in traffic and we’re working on passing Google, too.”
