OLPC holding game jam sessions to get developers to code free, open-source educational computer games
The people behind the XO laptop, OLPC Project is inviting developers to code free open source educational games for their low cost laptops as they aim to launch the product by September this year.
They are holding special jam sessions for software teams to get them develop games for this system.
OLPC is hoping that by developing more software for their platform they would get support from more governments for their project which is aimed to bring computers to students in developing countries.
They are aiming to get orders for around 3 million units of these laptops by the end of this month. OLPC had collected 2.5 million orders by late April. These need these numbers to bring the cost of manufacturing the laptops down.
SJ Klein, OLPC’s director of content spoke about this new initiative: “The purpose of the game jam is getting people together to hack for a couple of days. Hopefully this will be the first of many.”
