SED TV from Toshiba facing more delays
Toshiba Corp. has admitted that they would not be able to launch the much talked about flat-panel TVs based on SED (surface-conduction electron-emitter display) technology this year.
The company has revealed that they are now postponing the planned 4th quarter launch because panel-maker Canon Inc. won’t be able to supply the screens.
They had originally planned to make them widely available in the market by the time Olympics arrived in China.
Toshiba and Canon had been working on developing this new technology since quite sometime. The development process has however seen massive troubles both technically and legally.
Canon has themselves blamed the delays on the ongoing lawsuit in the U.S. They are also trying to establish more cost-effort mass production techniques.
