Rumors: Ford interested in selling Volvo. BMW an interested party.
The Goteborgs Posten daily has reported in a news item on their website that the US based automaker Ford is considering selling off their Volvo division.
One of the parties said to be interested in acquiring Volvo from Ford is German maker of luxury cars BMW.
The news item cited a source within Ford who said that BMW is studying a possible purchase of Volvo.
There have been market reports in the past suggesting that BMW was in informal talks to buy Volvo from Ford Motors.
A Volvo spokesperson had nothing to say: “We cannot comment on speculation, this is a question for our owner.”
Ford had originally acquired Volvo in 1999. Volvo is now part of the Ford’s Premier Automotive Group which also include their other owned brands including Jaguar and Land Rover.
