Rumors: Quanta could be making iPhone for Apple
Latest reports in the media states that Taiwan’s Quanta Computer has won a contract from Apple to manufacture 2G iPhone mobile phone.
This report helped Quanta at the stock market as its share price soared.
Chinese-language Commercial Times and Economic Daily News were the two news sources both of which reported this news item without revealing their sources.
Quanta is already the world’s largest contract notebook computer manufacturer and is also making the much in news USD 100 laptop for the OLPC project.
The report further claimed that Apple would be taking the delivery of the new handset starting in September.
The news item further claimed that the Quanta manufactured iPhone would be slightly different from the original iPhone as it would feature a different outer design to fit different markets.
Another market sources cited an unnamed Quanta source claiming that they have yet not signed the contract but are competing for such an order.
Apple is currently scheduled to launch their iPhone product sometime next month and has gone into an exclusive partnership with AT&T to sell it with a 2 year long contract.
