Motorola to expand mobile phone offerings

Motorola is struggling. This is very clear from their revenue reports and the just announced job cuts. The company has now responded by saying that they would launch new range of mobile products to become competitive again in the market they dominated the last couple of years with their RAZR range of mobile phones.

Motorola CEO Ed Zander said in a statement: “We’re not going to have another Razr. Every once in a while, something will pop, but there have been only three in recent years — the Microtec, the Startec, and the Razr.”

He was addressing a webcast address at the Lehman Brothers Worldwide Wireless and Wireline Conference in New York.

Motorola already is scheduled to launch some new products including Razr2, Moto Z8, Moto Q 9 and the Rokr Z6 in the markets around the world.

With Apple entering the mobile market with their soon to be launched Apple iPhone, Motorola has to be well prepared to maintain their leadership in the United States.

Zander added about their strategy for the future: “So there are four of them, which proves we can still design some pretty wild things. But we need more of them at more price points with more geographies and more carriers.”
