Palm launches Palm Foleo for a suggestive price of USD 599
Palm has launched a new computing device named Palm Foleo which is technically a laptop-like gadget featuring a full-size keyboard and 10-inch display.
The company claims that this device would be serve as a perfect companion for Smartphone users. However, Palm failed to impress their critics who claims that the device would not help the company diminish the ever growing competition in the US and European markets.
Palm revealed that the device would be offered at a suggested price of $599 before an introductory rebate of $100.
The company added that they developed this device to enable the user to manage and edit their e-mails and other documents by communicating with their smartphones through a wireless Bluetooth connection.
Palm Foleo features Wi-Fi, Internet-browsing capabilities and a Linux-based operating system. However, it does not feature a hard drive and that is why it fails to act as a replacement for a laptop.
Todd Kort, an industry analyst at Gartner Inc. research firm was one of the most disappointed market analysts: “This is the most disappointing product I’ve seen in years. They have some longer term goals for this product in mind, but this is going to hit the market with a thud.”
Palm’s founder, Jeff Hawkins had these views: “There are times when people need a large screen and a full-size keyboard. As smart phones get smaller, this need increases.”
