Dell to cut about 10 percent of its work force
World’s second largest computer maker Dell seems to be taking some hard steps to get back its number 1 position in the market.
The company just recently launched some Ubuntu powered personal computer products and now they have announced their plans to cut about 10 percent of its work force.
Dell also came out with their latest quarterly earnings and revenue that topped analysts’ expectations.
Market analyst Shaw Wu spoke about Dell: “The results are way better than expected. They are surprisingly strong in the U.S. enterprise market given that the environment is somewhat mixed.”
Dell announced that they would cut about 8,800 of its 82,800 permanent employees and 5,300 temporary staff. This would be a major step from the company to cut costs.
The company also recently announced their plans to expand the sales option channels. Dell is famous for their direct selling services to customers. Now, they would also be offering their computers through retail stores. A deal has already been announced which would see Wal-Mart offering Dell computers in their stores.
