Microsoft Live Book Search now indexing copyrighted material
Software giant Microsoft has said that they are now adding copyrighted material to their Live Book search service. The company added that they have taken the permission from the respective authors to make their content available in their search engine.
With this Microsoft has managed to avoid the problems Google faced with their Book search engine by digitizing copyrighted material.
Microsoft Live Search program manager Betsy Aoki said in a blog post on this new development: “We have paid particular attention to ensuring that we are only including books in our index that our publishing partners have given us permission to include. So our customers and partners can feel secure in our stance on copyright protection.”
Some of the publishers who have given their permission include Cambridge University Press, McGraw-Hill Companies, Rodale and Simon and Schuster.
Web users would be able the search through the copyrighted material and would get an option to purchase them from stores on the internet.
