Apple iPhone likely to help make Smartphones popular
Apple is scheduled to launch their iPhone mobile phone later this month. The company is hoping to change the way we look at mobile devices.
The market is hoping that the iPhone would do that thing to the smartphone market which the iPod did to the digital media player market… Make it popular.
Smartphones are not very popular. People do not accept the idea of accessing the web from mobile devices.
iPhone could very well change that scenario. Warren East, CEO of ARM Holdings PLC spoke about the concept of putting computing power in portable devices: “This has been an emerging market for a long time.”
He added that the Apple iPhone could turn around the industry if it manages to excel at what is being promised by the company.
East predicts that the smartphone sales could probably double this year if Apple iPhone becomes the success we all expect it to become. He further said: “Within the next few years, smartphones will make up half the mobile phone market.”
Michael Ounjian, a research analyst at Credit Suisse added: “Apple’s iPhone… is clearly the most widely anticipated product the industry has seen for years, potentially ever.”
