Eee PC 701: Intel working on a USD 199 laptop
Cheap computing seems to be in. OLPC project started the trend for a good cause. Their mission is to equip the children in developing nations with a cheap computing device to help them with their studies.
Asus too have showcased their Asus 3ePC device which has been priced at around $189.
Now, Intel has jumped into this segment of the market with the announcement of their $199 laptop.
Market analysts say that the company is trying to provide an alternative to the AMD processor powered OLPC computer which is expected to see sales of millions of units in the coming years.
This new Intel’s computing device would be offered along with their another cheap offering named Classmate PC.
Intel’s new product has been codenamed Eee PC 701 and it is likely to feature 802.11b/g wireless, 10/100 Ethernet, a 56K modem, a 7-inch screen, 512 MB of memory and a webcam.
