Privacy International criticizes Google for bad privacy practices
Google might believe that they have been working hard at protecting the privacy of their users but they have apparently failed to impress the privacy watchdog group Privacy International.
The group has said in an open letter that the search engine giant’s privacy practices are the worst among the Internet’s top destinations.
They have in fact given Google their lowest possible ranking which is reserved for companies with “comprehensive consumer surveillance and entrenched hostility to privacy.”
Other companies ranked by the group which managed to perform better than Google included their rivals including Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL.
Privacy International added that Google’s privacy policies have achieved status as an endemic threat to privacy.
Nicole Wong, Google’s deputy general counsel was however not amused. He responded: “We are disappointed with Privacy International’s report, which is based on numerous inaccuracies and misunderstandings about our services.”
