iSuppli: Qualcomm ban could further boost Apple iPhone in USA
Apple iPhone is coming out later this month in the US market. And we have just heard the news of the U.S. International Trade Commission ban on some of the mobile chips manufactured by Qualcomm in this market.
Qualcomm’s chips are used by all the major mobile phone makers in their higher end products. Some of these products were being planned for launch in the US market to take on the Apple iPhone with similar features.
The ban would mean that Apple iPhone is now likely to face a depleted competition when it launches later this month.
Qualcomm is facing this ban after it was found guilty of infringing upon patents owned by rival company Broadcom.
iSuppli said in a statement: “This could create challenges for carriers planning to offer these phones, while boosting the outlook for AT&T, which will sell the iPhone in the United States.”
Qualcomm has however said that they would fight this ban in the courts. They plan to ask the U.S. Court of Appeals to stay enforcement of the ITC order.
