Volkswagen to launch a Polo variant in India
Volkswagen India is said to be working on plans to launch a variant of their Polo small car in the Indian market.
This car is going to be modified for Indian conditions and is expected to be launched sometime in 2009.
VW is targeting selling around a million units of this car in India over a period of seven years. Modest targets indeed.
Market sources added that the company is also setting up a vendor park in its factory in Chakan, Pune. Another unnamed source was quoted as saying: “They are modifying the car for local conditions such as bad roads, potholes, and that people use chauffeurs in even small cars.”
Nissan and Honda are two other major automakers which are working on plans to launch compact cars in the Indian market which is largely dominated by Maruti Suzuki products.
VW Polo Indian edition is likely to be made available in both Petrol and Diesel versions.
