General Motors India to launch another compact car in India
World’s largest automaker (disputed fact now!) General Motors is rumored to be considering plans to launch yet another compact car model in the Indian market.
GM India has already launched Aveo U-VA and Chevrolet Spark in the Indian market. GM is planning to launch another model between these two models by next year.
Market sources say that this new car would be manufactured at their upcoming plant which would be operational by next year.
Ankush Arora, V-P, GM India said in a statement: “General Motors presence in India is incomplete without a strong presence in the small cars category that rules a mass market in the Indian automobile industry.”
He added: “There is no denying the fact small cars are sold in volumes and going by the boom in this segment the company might look at shifting its entire small car production to its new plant that will have initial capacity of 1,40,000 units.”
Incidentally GM India is already scheduled to launch their Chevrolet Captiva model in India sometime next year. This model would compete with models like the Honda CR-V.
