Apple iTunes collaborating with Yahoo Japan
Apple has announced that they are now collaborating with Yahoo’s Japanese division for their digital media service Apple iTunes.
The deal would see Yahoo Japan replacing their current Sony powered music download service with Apple Inc.’s iTunes Music Store.
Apple iTunes would now be powering the Yahoo Music Japan’s digital music store! Yahoo Japan was using Mora till now which is a service provided by Sony-affiliated LabelGate Co. Ltd.
The two companies have not revealed the financial aspects of their deal to the media personals. This is however huge news for Apple as Yahoo’s Japanese division is pretty popular in this market.
NetRatings Japan states that the Yahoo Japan service reaches around 40 million people in the country.
Incidentally, this collaboration between Yahoo Japan and Apple iTunes is somewhat confusing considering Yahoo and Apple are rivals in the same market in countries like USA. However, the truth is that the Japanese edition of Yahoo runs pretty independently from the US one.
