Gracenote to launch music service compatible with Sony mobile phones
Gracenote has announced that they are scheduled to launch a new mobile music service that would be compatible with Sony’s latest mobile phones.
The timing is critical considering Apple is scheduled to launch their iPhone later this month which would compliment their Apple iTunes store.
Gracenote said that their service would let mobile users search online from their handsets for artists, buy songs and ring tones, and view album art.
Their users would also be able to identify songs they are listening on FM and other sources using Gracenote service. This would enable them to buy those songs on the spot using their mobile devices.
Gracenote confirmed that the service is compatible with the just released Sony Ericsson W910 Walkman phone and the K850 Cyber-shot phone.
Sony needs a service like this to compete with Apple in the mobile phone market. Otherwise, Apple could someday dominate them in this market as well like they dominate them in the digital music player market!
