Linux could be hot property worth USD 35 billions
For most of us, Linux is a free operating system, which is used by techie friends or g33ks. For some, it provides a way to get rid of the monopoly of Microsoft’s Operating Systems. However, as corporations are finding it out, Linux also provide a great market to sell softwares. A research firm has predicted that Linux would bring in around USD 35 billions worth of business to the corporations involved in developing software for it.
Framingham, Mass. based firm IDC has estimates that the market in its current form generates USD 15 Billion in revenues and would grow to touch USD 35 billions in the next four years. The number beats many old estimates by a good margin. They are now including revenues generated by redeployment on existing hardware as well as when the OS is used as a guest in special cases.
The fastest growing market in Linux is the software development, which is not released in free form. The revenue growth for Linux is pegged at around 26% annually, which the application market is expected to grow at 44% annually. And Asia and Europe are expected to extend their lead in the market over USA. American users are said to be less likely to use Linux when compared to users in Asian and European markets.
